BE “RESPON-SIV-BLE” / responsive website is a must

“It is not the most intellectual of the species that survives, it is not the strongest that survives, but the species that survives is the one that is able to adapt to and to adjust best to the changing environment in which it finds itself.” -Charles Darwin

WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL?

I was born in the eighties in Poland… Communistic time in all its glory.  Back then, no one could possibly imagine that a responsive website would be a must. If you were into socialism it was all bananas but my romantic, patriotic, creative and… CRAZY family was far from a perfect socialist unit. So what do you do when all the odds are against the way you see the world? You don’t compromise. You adapt.

What did it mean to my family back in the eighties? It mostly meant trouble. My mom and dad were part of the underground government and officially refused to be part of the socialist party. As a result, they were practically unhireable. Two fairly educated dreamers without a chance to provide for our family the way it deserved to be provided for. They did a lot of weird stuff. My mom (previously a teacher) was cleaning at the local school and teaching other “teachers” how to teach. My dad got fired from the local factory and as a consequence was growing fruits & cabbage in my grandpa’s garden to barter them for meat, smuggling toys from Bulgaria to sell them on a local “black” market… ALL KINDS OF THINGS.

AS TIME PASSES BY… ADAPT, OR DIE.

Why am I writing about it on my marketing blog? First of all, I’m a very nostalgic person and living thousands of miles away from my Polish peeps brings back the memories stronger than anything… Secondly, I see the analogy! The ability to adapt saved my family, put food on our plates and most importantly saved our lives. In the eighties my parents were fighting for basic freedom. In 2019 small businesses fight for basic visibility. Is it a different fight? For sure! Does the win consist of the same ingredients? Absolutely!

Proper adaptation in a modern, digital marketing environment can mean a lot of things and hold me to my word… You’re gonna read about all of it in the very near future. Today though I want to focus on a topic that still seems to be a hidden gem for many! If you own a business you have to make sure you shine everywhere you go! It doesn’t matter if you sell Bulgarian toys on a local market (like my dad used to), own a car dealership, bakery or a law firm. When your potential customers see you they gotta fall in love with you. It’s the ultimate rule.

RESPONSIVE WEBSITE IS A MUST... BUT WHERE DO THEY ALL HANG OUT?

Whether we want to admit it or not... The digital world has never been more real than now. If you’re not visible online you’re definitely missing out BIG TIME! But online is such a broad expression… yes, I know and this time by online presence - I simply mean your digital home - your website. Have you ever had the feeling that time flies faster than our ability to adapt? It doesn’t have to! All you really need is to appear where everyone else is and make sure you just look  AWESOME.

So where’s the hottest place to be these days? The answer is simple yet still a mystery to many… The hottest place to be & look your best is the smartphone browser. Be RESPON-SIV-BLE and let your website be RESPONSIVE.  “What on Earth do you mean by that?” my dad would ask… I mean make sure your website looks great on the computer screen, tablet, smartphone… everywhere! Is there a science behind it? Yes, there is. Beginning in 2016 mobile website traffic share started to grow rapidly! Within the last 12 months, more than half of the websites worldwide were opened on mobile and tablet.

WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW?

First of all, if you’re panicking, calm down. Simply open your website on your phone and see if you like it… Look at it with your customers’ eyes. You're basically inviting them on a date. Is the website intuitive and easy to navigate? Did you add your picture anywhere upfront? Is the information about your service/product visible enough to read? How hard it is to find your phone and address? Is the overall impression appealing? Would you go on a date with yourself?

If the answer to any of those questions is “no” or “I’m not sure” you’re definitely in the underground, like my parents were… The good news is you don’t have to hide from the Soviet government as they did… You hide only if you want to. If on the other hand, you’re ready for a real coming out, grand entrance or massive mobile domination, believe it or not, but we might be a good fit for each other. We invite you for a date with Raise Your Media! Check our website on your phone and let us know if we are a catch! Responsive website is a must so choose wisely who you decide to date.
