QUIT BEING PARALYZED

HOW TO QUIT BEING PARALYZED AND MOVE YOUR BUSINESS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION?

“Change is painful, but nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong.” -Mandy Hale

STRESS IS SCARY BUT SO ARE ITS CONSEQUENCES...

Being paralyzed by the current circumstances is no joke. I’ve been meaning to write this blog post for a while now and within weeks the situation has been changing, my outlook has been shifting and I wasn’t really sure if something written today will be relevant tomorrow. Since the pandemic started small and medium companies have been suffering. With all the blogs full of “how to adjust”, “start work remotely”, “how to apply for your PPP loan”, “how to re-open your business”, “protect your business from riots”... I didn’t feel I had anything valid to say… As a marketing agency owner I immediately wanted to write some kind of guided, supportive content but the truth is I was in major panic mode along with hundreds of thousands of other small business owners.

The more I think about it, the more I realize being an entrepreneur is pretty effective survival training. Despite all odds, not having huge crisis teams and being short on supportive solutions makes us crisis proof individuals. When we have nothing to lose, we can become dangerously... creative and this allows us to adapt.

CRISIS MANAGEMENT VS LONG-TERM GOALS.

Has it ever crossed your mind that you could be better prepared? That somehow you could have predicted what was going to happen and your response could have been more accurate when it actually did occur? Yeah. We tend to overestimate our ability to conquer the world. But also… why not?! We were crazy enough to start our own businesses. We might as well go for the inconvenience and try to survive!

In the 90ties my dad used to own a music store with CD’s, cassettes and vinyls. I remember vividly the moment the internet entered the music industry game and my family suffered big time. It never crossed my father’s mind that changing the channel of the distribution could be a possibility. He stood his ground and eventually went bankrupt. This was a valid and bitter lesson that will stay with me forever. I honestly believe this is why, amongst other reasons, our marketing agency serves small businesses.

As I watched my father’s store being wiped out because he did not change the way he was imagining his sales model, I’m watching many small business owners today… The restaurants without proper ordering systems on their websites being consistently taken advantage of by external providers, coaches depressed because their classes won’t provide the revenue due to new social distancing rules… You see where I’m going with this. You also might think - it’s easy, we should all start selling online. Yet the reality is completely different. Hundreds of thousands of businesses still don’t even have a proper mobile responsive website or social media accounts, not even mentioning the actual online store.
If you think this “e-commerce thing” isn’t for you, look at this > data and think again. As Jeff Bezos once said: “It’s hard to find things that won’t sell online…”
